Med anledning av det nya policyförslaget att legaliseraslakten av hundar och katter kommer alla resurser tillsvidare attsatsas på att stoppa lagförslaget.

 

Vår partner KAPS i Sydkorea vädjar till vår hjälp. Sunnan Kum hörde av sig i mitten på maj 2008 och var desperat, eftersom Korea en andra gång försöker få hundkonsumtion laglig, sedan det förbjöds i samband med OS för ca 10 år sedan. Hundarna torteras innan de serveras som en exklusiv rätt (boshitang soup) vilken tros vara potenshöjande för män. Sunnan menar att regeringen inte lyssnar på Koreaner, men när de får världens ögon på sig är de påverkbara. Hon har bett oss att skicka mail till borgmästaren i Seul som har kommit med förslaget.

Dear Oh Se Hun,

 

I would like to request that the mayor of Seul, Oh Se Hun, to rethink your decision to make dog consumption again legal in Korea. The first step proposed in April 2008 of a reinforcement of a policy to classify dog meat as livestock products, would be very bad for the development in Korea now that cruel slaughter of dogs and cats have been forbidden a decade. A policy like this simply to bring better hygiene standards is unlikely to work. Worst of all, it will not stop the cruelty and shame of the dog meat industry, nor the bad image this industry gives to Korea around the world.

 

Instead, I ask for legislation that completely bans the slaughter of dogs and cats for food or medicine and prohibits the consumption of dog and cat meat.

 

There will be so many positive changes when Korea prohibits dog and cat consumption.

 

No more unhygienic food.

 

No more cruel slaughter and torture of dogs and cats.

 

Korean children will learn the value of loving animals.

 

Korea will become a more compassionate and thoughtful society.

 

Korea will no longer be viewed as a country of animal abusers.

 

Korea will gain more respect from the international community.

 

Korean people will be seen as modern and progressive in their thinking.

 

Korea can start to become a leader in Asia in terms of animal protection and care.

 

Korea's future generations will benefit from Korea's better image worldwide.

 

 

 

What will be the result if the Korean government goes ahead with the dog meat policy?

 

It will bring criticism against the Korean government from around the world.

 

It will lead to more people in other countries choosing to boycott Korean products.

 

It will spread geriatric disease due to fraudulent health myths.

 

It will require a larger cost to the government than simply banning the industry.

 

It will only please a minority of dog eaters and illegal dog meat traders, not most Koreans.

 

 

 

So please do not classify dog meat as livestock products.
